In het werk van de Utrechtse kunstenaar Iris
Frerichs (*1980) staat het stedelijke landschap centraal. De
vluchtigheid van processen van opbouw en afbraak in de stedelijke
omgeving en het eeuwig voortduren van deze processen worden door de
kunstenaar omgezet in haar werk. Daarbij probeert ze een spanningsveld
op te roepen tussen de verschillende werelden binnen de stad: introvert
en extravert, fragiel en robuust, binnen- en buitenwereld.
Door middel van een heel eigen combinatie van scheuren, snijden,
plakken, schilderen en tekenen komt ze tot mixed media werk op
verschillende formaten. Bij with tsjalling: toont ze onder andere de
nieuwe serie met kleinere tekeningen Neighbours, waarin de
spanning tussen twee bouwwerken centraal staat. Door intensieve grijze
en zwarte potloodlagen met felle spotlichten te combineren ontstaan
energieke nachttaferelen.
Iris Frerichs is in 2009 genomineerd voor de Thieme Art Award. Haar werk
was onder andere te zien op Art Amsterdam en pAn Amsterdam.
In the work of Utrecht based
artist Iris Frerichs (*1980), the urban landscape is the central theme.
The artist translates the volatility of the process of building and
demolition in the urban environment, and the eternal continuity of these
processes into her work. Herewith she tries to create a tension between
the different worlds within the city: introvert versus extravert,
fragile versus robust, inner world versus outside world.
Using her own combination of different techniques of tearing, cutting,
gluing, painting and drawing, she creates mixed media works of different
size. The show at with tsjalling: will include a new series of smaller
drawings called Neighbours. The work in
this series shows a special tension between two buildings. Combining
intense gray and black pencil layers with bright spotlights the artist
makes energetic night scenes.
Iris Frerichs was nominated for the Thieme Art Award in 2009. Her work
was shown at important art fairs as Art Amsterdam and pAn Amsterdam.
